2016 Shannons Sydney Late Autumn Classic Auction

The 2016 Shannons Sydney Late Autumn auction is to be held on Monday so I went to the viewing day to see the cars offered for sale.

Even though nothing really grabbed my at this auction it is always well worth going and taking a look around. Much of the stock were muscle cars, some Aussie some American.

The cars that did interest me the most were:

1934 Hudson Straight 8

I know little about these cars but it has loads of character and looks like it is in nice condition. They expect $40-$50,000.

1950 Armstrong Siddeley Whitley Sports […]

Insanity reigns at the Shannons Melbourne Auction

The world has officially gone mad, with prices for Kombi vans (aka the VW Bus) reaching the stratosphere. This to me is a clear bubble market and anyone who has a split window Kombi should sell it now while you can. You’ll probably be able to buy it back for a third of the money in 5 years.

Offered for auction was an 11 window bus, which reached a hammer price of $158,000 after furious bidding.

Coming back to reality, somebody got a nice deal on a black Mercedes 220a Roundie for $7,500 and under the estimate of around $10-12k. […]

2015 Shannons Sydney Spring Classic Auction Preview

The regular Shannons auctions are always a great way to see an interesting collection of classic cars and know what they actually sell for. Many classics languish for months (and sometimes years!) on carsales.com.au with ridiculous asking prices, whereas with Shannons you know the actual sale price, not the inflated asking price.

There were two cars in particular I was interested in seeing – the Jaguar XK140 FHC and the Mercedes 280SE 3.5 Coupe. Both of these cars are on my ‘car bucket list’ and I wanted to see what they were like to understand the final price. The XK140 […]

Shannons Sydney Autumn Classic Auction 2014

The Citroen Club had a meeting at the Shannon’s auction display again and as usual Shannons had a nice selection of cars on show.

The pick of the auction for me was the Traction Avant. Almost in my ideal spec. (I would prefer a year older with the small boot). As well as this there were some other interesting cars for sale including:

Lot 1: 1980 Volvo 242GT

The 242 is a real cult car and probably the squarest two door car ever made. For an expected price of $6-10,000 you can look evil and sensible all at once.

[…]

2014 Shannons Sydney late spring classic auction preview

The latest Shannons Auction is on Monday, so I went to preview the offering. As usual, Shannons have a nice mix of cars for sale, and the ones that caught my eye were:

Lot 4: 1951 AUSTIN A90 ATLANTIC 2 DOOR COUPE

This is not a car I know much about, but it has oodles of character and a price guide of $18,000-$24,000. The paint work is not in great shape, but it looks like a nice car nevertheless and it has loads of cool period details.

Lot 7: 1975 CITROEN D SUPER 5 SEDAN

This is a […]

2014 Shannons Sydney Late Autumn Classic Auction

This month’s Shannons Auction had a few cars I wanted to drop by and see.

The first was a W111 Convertible – A manual 220SE. The car looked nice from the photos and the price range seemed a bit low to me. ($54,000-$60,000).

The car is nice for that price – I would rate it at a nice driver condition – the leather is a bit worn and has a few tears, the wood needs refinishing and the paint is not perfect, but that means this is a car you can use regularly. I wasn’t able to see the […]

Shannons Auction Sydney – March 2014

The Citroen Club were invited to see a preview of the cars up for auction by Shannons next week. This months auction catalogue was a bit of ‘something for everyone’, ranging from a nice looking Wolseley with an estimate of $4,000 to $6000 to a Ferrari Dino 246.

My picks from this auction were:

An immaculate looking BMW 635csi for $12,000 to $15,000. I’ve always been a fan of the 6 series, with its sharp styling and good handling. This is a lot of car for the money. A nice looking Mercedes 250SL (unfortunately with a 280SL badge) that had […]

Sydney Shannons Auction

Went to the Sydney Shannons auction last week. The Shannons auctions are a great way to see what classics area really selling for vs the tired 6 month old ads you see online with insane price expectations. The picks of the auction in my mind were the Blue XJ12C and the Red 230SL.

Somebody got a bargain on a massive Caddie, and there was a nice red Mercedes 280/8 that went for pretty big money for a W114. There was also a Ferrari Mondial that did not even get a starting bid, even though there was a man in attendance […]
