2015 Tesla Model S Review

The Citroen Car club had its monthly meeting at the Tesla showroom this month. Tesla were offering short test drives to club members as part of the meeting. The Tesla Model S is one of the few modern cars that interest me, so I jumped at the opportunity. In my view, the Tesla is the first ‘green’ car that is a great car as well as being green. Nobody bought a Prius because it was a great car, they bought it because it was supposed to be green.

The Tesla Model S is a great car despite it being electric. […]

Dawn drive up the Putty road with the Citroen Club

Despite my overheating problems last year, I had enjoyed the Citroen Club drive up the Putty road last year, and was keen to have another go in the DS with a new water pump and flushed radiator. This year was the same format, drive up for breakfast at the cafe halfway along the Putty road, Lunch at one of the wineries and then drive back through Wollombi.

Given the problems I had with overheating last year, I was rather dismayed that at 5:15 this morning, my temperature gauge was not working. Turns out the flying lead had become wrapped around […]

Shannons Sydney Autumn Classic Auction 2014

The Citroen Club had a meeting at the Shannon’s auction display again and as usual Shannons had a nice selection of cars on show.

The pick of the auction for me was the Traction Avant. Almost in my ideal spec. (I would prefer a year older with the small boot). As well as this there were some other interesting cars for sale including:

Lot 1: 1980 Volvo 242GT

The 242 is a real cult car and probably the squarest two door car ever made. For an expected price of $6-10,000 you can look evil and sensible all at once.

The Devil in Disguise drive

On Sunday, I attended the Devil in Disguise drive with the Citroen Club. So the story goes the drive is named in memorial for a member of the club who is sadly deceased who was apparently a mild mannered man, until he got behind the wheel of his DS, when the Devil in Disguise came out!

On this trip, the Devil was the weather – being around 35C, a bit too hot for old Ds. Of the about 10 cars on the run, most people had brought a more modern car, apart from me in the DS and a 2CV. […]

CCCNSW Tech Day Oct 2014

Today was one of the regular tech days organised by the Citroen Club. I always enjoy the tech days, even if I am not doing much to my car – you can see the other cars, talk to the other members and sometimes learn how to do things by watching what other people do.

One of the tricks I learned today was simple but effective. When removing spheres, use a baby’s nappy to catch the LHM that will invariably leak out from the sphere. Larger is better.

The tech day was held at a semi-rural property owned by a […]

2014 French Car Day

Today was the 2014 French car day. Like last year, the event is put on by the French car clubs in Sydney, i.e. Peugeot, Renault, Simca etc. It was a lovely day and a good turnout – especially of DS including a few cars I had not yet seen in the club. A couple of cars in particular:

– A yellow D Special that was for sale not long after my car and was purchased by a club member and subject to a well documented restoration on Aussiefrogs.

– A red Safari that was purchased in bits a few […]

Dawn Citroen drive up Putty road to the Hunter

The Putty road is one of the better driving roads close to Sydney – so much so that it is the favorite haunt of many Motorcycle clubs. (the ones that actually ride bikes, not the ones that sell speed). I’ve driven it a couple of times in the E-Type, and once in the 450SLC, but never in the DS. Given it is quite a twisty road, the DS which is more like a couch on wheels wasn’t my first choice for this route – but there is fun in doing a twisty road in absolute comfort, and the semi-automatic gear […]

Citroen night drive to La Perouse

This evening the Citroen Club organized a night drive to La Perouse. It was a lovely warm evening, perfect for taking the DS out for a drive.

The meeting point was Harry’s Cafe de Wheels in Tempe, which is a bit of a Sydney institution selling pies etc. Despite living in Sydney most of my life, I had never actually been there. The advertise the best pie in Sydney – it was nice although I have to say Oatley pies are better.

The blue car in the picture is a DS23 Automatic. Like my car, it is a comfort […]

Shannons Auction Sydney – March 2014

The Citroen Club were invited to see a preview of the cars up for auction by Shannons next week. This months auction catalogue was a bit of ‘something for everyone’, ranging from a nice looking Wolseley with an estimate of $4,000 to $6000 to a Ferrari Dino 246.

My picks from this auction were:

An immaculate looking BMW 635csi for $12,000 to $15,000. I’ve always been a fan of the 6 series, with its sharp styling and good handling. This is a lot of car for the money. A nice looking Mercedes 250SL (unfortunately with a 280SL badge) that had […]

Citroen Club Tech Event Feb 2014

Today I managed to make my second Citroen Car Club tech event. Today was bucketing down with rain, so my intention of regassing my spheres went out the window as I didn’t feel the need to lie down in puddles to remove them and the lift was otherwise occupied with an old caddy. Nevertheless it was good to get to the event see some of the other cars and club members.

Given the poor weather, I got to ride in two Citroens I had not experienced before – A GS and a DS 23 EFI Automatic.

The GS was quite […]
