MBCNSW July 2022 Night Drive – Royal National Park

Earlier this morning I returned from the MBCNSW July 2022 Night Drive. We try to rotate the travel direction around Sydney, so this time we were going South. The drive was actually a repeat of one we did back in February 2021. That drive was quite popular, so we figured we would run it again.

The drives in the dead of winter are less popular, so we had a smaller crowd than last time. One advantage of that is that it’s easier to keep the group together. We had my W111 250SE Cabriolet, two W124’s (A 230E and a 300E) […]

The Australian Motorlife Museum

The Australian Motorlife Museum is located in Dapto, about 90 minutes south of Sydney. Visiting this museum has been on my to-do list for some time. Last Sunday I participated in a drive day with the Topklasse forum, which had the Motorlife Museum as its destination.

The meeting point for the drive was an oval near the start of the Royal National Park. While the fastest way to get to the Motorlife Musem is down the M1 freeway, the best way is via the Grand Pacific Drive. This takes you through the Royal National park and across the sea cliff […]

MBCNSW Run to Sublime Point

The Mercedes club had a run today out through the Royal National Park to Sublime point. It was an official club run, so historic plated cars were welcome, and in particular was focused on the 107 series. Given this, I took the 450SLC. There were 7 107’s at the start and at least one more met us at the venue. 5 SLs and 2 SLCs, mostly 380, 450 and 500 models.

There was one 450SL that had just had its interior re-done from a kit bought in the United States. It looked great, even to the carpet in the boot. […]

JDCA drive to Bulli

I recently attended a JDCA drive to Bulli organized by the Grand Tourers Register (i.e. XJS, New XK). The drive started in Southern Sydney and took the grand pacific drive through the royal national park. Unfortunately the event organizers Jag (a lovely XJS convertible) developed an issue and had to pull out of the event, but overall it was a very nice day and some nice cars on display.

The video below is a sped up version of the JDCA drive to Bulli. It shows the route through the Grand Pacific Drive, sea-cliff bridge and in to Bulli.

The […]

Grand Pacific Drive

I had wanted to check out the Grand Pacific Drive for a while, and had a few hours free the other day so took the 250SE. The 250SE’s transmission linkage was still playing up, so I didn’t make too many stops (as I didn’t want to crawl under the car and reset it every few times I put it into park), but once you get to the start of the drive, it is very nice and surprisingly well sign posted. I followed the drive to Kiama – but I would like to go further next time.

I did see a […]
