Most accurate way is to remove it and count the teeth. Or you can guess and if wrong then order another one!

I own a 1988 300sel (w126)

The smallest gear to my odometer broke. I would like to buy the entire kit from garagistic.com.

My car is a USA model and the front of the speedometer reads 1265427357 VDO (MPH).

Which is the correct gear size for the 3rd gear. Is it 13/48 or 14/48?

I have a feeling that since my car reads speed in mph, the correct gear size just might be 14/48.

Again, any help is appreciated

Not sure, I did both of mine myself. But there is probably an instrument cluster repair shop near you if you don't want to give it a go.
