The Concours Run 2023 – Day 4: MBCV Concours

Today was the MBCV Concours event. This was the show that we built this whole trip around. I had wanted to attend this event for years, as I had always heard the standard of the cars was high. It always looked like a big event and with more rare older cars than we get in NSW.

The event was held at Wandin East Reserve. Wandin East is a semi-rural area on Melbourne’s eastern outskirts. The reserve is a good place to have the event as there is plenty of room to park all the cars, and set up the various […]

2018 Sydney German Auto-Fest

In the space of about ten years, the Sydney German Auto-fest has grown from a couple of cars in a small Canada Bay carpark to one of the biggest car shows on the calendar.

I attended that first show, unfortunately I did not take any photos. What a contrast to the 2018 show. This was the biggest one yet. The show has now outgrown Gough Whitlam park, so a new venue would not surprise me next year.

Probably the biggest contrast was that the other marques took the show very seriously this year. In prior years, there were quite small […]

2017 Sydney German Car Show

The Sydney German Car Show 2017 was held today and as usual it did not disappoint. A great selection of Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Porsche, VW and Audi’s were on display. The only downside was that aside from the Micro cars, there was no representation from the niche German cars. There was also only one pre-war car. This event has really grown by leaps and bounds in the 9 years since it was started. I remember the first one well.

This year was notable for the strong turnout of W111/W112 Coupe and Cabriolet models. From the lows of the last couple of […]

2010 Concours d’Elegance of America at Meadow Brook

In 2010 I attended the Concours d’Elegance of America, at Meadow Brook hall. This is still the best concours event I have ever attended. I was living in Detroit, Michigan at the time and the event was held in the Detroit suburbs. The Detroit location also meant that there were various concept cars and other rarities that may not be at other shows. The event is no longer held at Meadow Brook hall, but is still in the Detroit suburbs. I was able to visit again in 2018.

Some of the highlights for me included:

The matching pair of Bugatti […]

250SE Concours runner up

I heard this week that the 250SE was the runner up in its category at the recent German Car show and Mercedes-Benz Concours. The German Car show functions as the 2016 MBCNSW Concours. The category was for the W111/W112 Coupes and Cabriolets. This was the first time I’ve displayed the car with the correct headlights and wheel trims and the car is the better for it.

The winner in the class was the Orange/Red 220SE Cabriolet which is in exceptional condition.

2016 Sydney German Car Show

This year the NSW Mercedes-Benz Club concours and the German car show were combined into a single event. Overall this seemed to work reasonably well as they opened up additional paddocks and it meant one of the best turnouts of Benz’s for some years. For some reason the turnout for the other German makes was rather poor, and perhaps they were assuming it was a Mercedes event as there were only a handful of BMWs, Porches and the odd Audi/VW.

The star of the show without a doubt was the 1938 230 Cabriolet ‘A’. Not only an incredibly rare car […]

2014 NSW Mercedes Benz Club Concours

I attended the Mercedes Club Concours this year. It was a lovely day, 18c and a great turn out of cars. Also got to talk to some interesting people and hear about their cars. Unlike the last time I went in 2012, the older cars are starting to come back, they seemed to stay away for a few years, for one reason or another. Regardless It’s good to see them back. There are still a surprising number of late model cars entered, which personally I don’t see the point of a 2013 car in a concors event, but each to […]
