Flashback: 2012 Sydney German Auto-Fest

They Sydney German Auto-Fest is now a major event in the Sydney car show calendar. There are hundreds of cars to choose from including Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Porsche, Audi and some of the smaller brands. It has even replaced the separate Mercedes-Benz concours event. However, this show had quite humble beginnings. I attended the 2012 Sydney German Auto-Fest, back when it was a couple of dozen cars in a parking lot. I recall that this was the inaugural event, but I could be off a year.

I went there in the 250SE, but I wasn’t sure if you had to register […]

Auto Brunch St. Ives March 2020

The 2020 March Auto Brunch event at St Ives Showground was the biggest I have attended. I was only able to stay for about forty minutes and cars were already leaving when I arrived, but the total numbers were up on last time’s already large attendance.

This month I went in my 450SLC. I perhaps should have taken the 560SEC as there were three other 560SECs in attendance, including another one in Nautical Blue. The other Nautical Blue car had much thinner headlight wipers than my car or the white one. I didn’t get a chance to look at the […]

Auto Brunch St. Ives February 2020

I attended the monthly Auto Brunch event in St. Ives Showground today. This time I took my DS. It was pretty dusty from all the smoke in Sydney, but still got a lot of attention. Even though I have been four times, there can still be a lot of variety and different cars I have not seen before. This month there was a whole line up of Jensen Interceptors. I’m a fan of the interceptor – it’s a big brute of a car combining Italian Styling, British engineering and an American (Chrysler) powertrain.

The Mercedes Club also featured Auto Brunch […]

2019 Mid Florida Auto Show

A couple of weeks ago, while I was in the USA I attended the Mid Florida Auto Show and Lake Mirror Concours. This posting is a few weeks old, as I didn’t have the cable for my camera to transfer the photos. I was in Orlando for work, and Lakeland is about an hour or two away. The Mid Florida Auto show is normally a picturesque event set on the shores of Lake Mirror. This year, Tropical Storm Nestor hit North Florida. While Nestor was a fair way away, it was close enough to cause torrential rain in the Central […]

2019 ACT Marques in the park

This weekend I planned to drive down to Canberra for the MB Spares and Service clearance sale. Originally I was going to do a Saturday day trip, but I noticed that the Marques in the park show was running the next day. From what I read this is a fairly large, but still informal show, with normally a few hundred cars in attendance.

I decided to make a weekend of it – stay down Saturday evening and then attend the show Sunday morning. It worked out quite well – I attended the show from 9Am to 11:30 and then headed […]

2019 ACT German Car Show

This weekend I traveled to Canberra for 2019 ACT German Car Show. I’ve been to this show a few times before (2013, 2015, 2017), but this is the first time I have formally entered a car. In prior years I have driven down on the day and arrived around 11ish to see the show for an hour or so. This year I decided to do it properly and stay over in Canberra Saturday night.

The NSW Mercedes club were doing a convoy on Saturday, but I had a lot to do before I left so elected to drive down myself […]

2019 British Car Show, Sydney

Yesterday I attended the 2019 British Car Show at the Kings School. This is still, in my opinion, the premier car show in Sydney each year. It was a lovely day, with summer like weather and a big turn out of cars.

I didn’t display a car this year. Last year, I displayed my E-Type. However, the Jaguars now come in a different way over a series of rather large speed humps. I don’t think my stainless steel exhaust system will last very long given how badly it scraped last year. This change is because the show has been consolidated […]

16th Cars that time forgot car show

I was in Madison, Wisconsin last weekend and had a few hours to spare. I also had use of a rental car, which gave me the opportunity to travel further afield. Back when I lived in America, there were interesting car shows all through summer I used to attend. About an hour away was the Cars that time forgot car show, in Delavan WI.

This show was pretty typical of the ones I used to attend. Owners from the area bring their interesting cars for a display day. The scale of the population within driving distance meant that over 1,000 […]

Auto Brunch St Ives June 2019

Auto Brunch is a monthly cars and coffee event only 10 minutes from where I live. I stopped by the June event today. This is an interesting event in that while there appear to be some regulars there is also a lot of variety in the cars you see each time. As you would expect given the production volume, the MGB was the most popular car there. Even with the MGB you get a bit of variety comparing roadsters, MGB GT, rubber nose etc. This time, it appeared that the Austin Healey club owners must have arranged to go as […]

Auto Brunch St. Ives February 2019

Auto Brunch event is a cars and coffee event held monthly at St. Ives Showground. I attended back in November and enjoyed the day. It’s an easy event, you can drive in and be parked in minutes and leave whenever you like. With over 100 cars on display its a nice way to spend an hour or so.

This time I took two of my young children who also enjoyed looking at the cars. We only stayed about 30-40 minutes which was enough to have a wander around and check out the display.

As we had another event on later […]
