2022 ACT German car show

Yesterday was the 2022 ACT German car show. It was the first since 2019, with the 2020 and 2021 events unfortunately cancelled due to COVID. The ACT show always punches above its weight in that it attracts not only the large base of cars from the Canberra region, but normally has cars drive in from southern NSW, northern Victoria and often a few from Melbourne too.

As with the 2019 event, I chose to drive down on Saturday so I could show a car and attend the dinner. This year I chose to bring my 560SEL on the trip. The […]

Machines & Macchiatos September 2022

Today I attended the September 2022 Machines and Macchiatos event. This is my second time to this event, I managed to attend the December 2021 event last year. Since my last time at the event, they have a new location at Northern Beaches Christian School in Terrey Hills. I was supposed to be at the All French Day today, but it was cancelled due to wet fields so went to Machines & Macchiatos instead.

The new location is great. There is plenty of room and all the cars park on tarmac. I took my 280SE and it was the only […]

Eastern Suburbs cars and coffee August 2022

Today I took my E-Type to the Eastern Suburbs cars and coffee event. I’ve never taken my E-Type to one of these informal cars and coffee events. I normally take what I have in the garage on the day. The E-Type is a car I normally get out for specific drives or shows. That means it’s less likely than some of the other cars to be sitting in the garage for daily use.

This month’s event was the smallest I’ve been to. While the weather was certainly a factor, the other was the normal location was closed for a special […]

2022 Shannons Eastern Creek Car Show

Today was the 2022 Shannons Eastern Creek Car Show. This is the biggest car show that I know of in Sydney, and is held at Eastern Creek Raceway. I’ve been going for years, but have never entered a car. All those previous times I have been a spectator, most recently in 2018. The 2021 and 2020 events were cancelled due to coronavirus and I was away for the 2019 event.

One of the advantages of entering a car is you get to take it on a parade lap around the race track. Each club gets a specific slot to do […]

Auto Brunch St Ives August 2022

Today I attended the monthly Auto Brunch event at St Ives Showground. This is easily the best cars and coffee event in Sydney. There is always a huge variety on display at this event. This wasn’t the biggest event I can remember, but it probably has the biggest variety.

A great example was a timewarp Chrysler Lancer. I don’t recall the last time I saw one of these, especially a car from before Chrysler sold out to Mitsubishi.

Both the Mercedes and Citroen Clubs had this event on their club calendar. Like last time, I took my DS to the […]

Eastern Suburbs cars and coffee July 2022

I was able to attend the Eastern Suburbs cars and coffee event this morning. I’ve managed to attend the last couple of these events and there are always a good mix of cars attending. As it is an eastern suburbs event, the most popular car is always the Porsche 911.

It was interesting to see a 930 Turbo parked next to a regular 911 of the same era. The flared wheel arches are really obvious on the 930. While I always enjoy seeing the cars, the 911 is one classic I’ve never really gotten into. I’ve always preferred the 928.

Eastern Suburbs Cars and Coffee June 2022

It’s a lovely winter weekend here in Sydney. Cool in the morning and evening, but pleasant during the day. With a break in the weather, it felt like a good opportunity to take my 250SE to the show with its newly rebuilt brakes and recent tune up. It was also an opportunity to take a drive with the top down. I don’t think I’ve managed to do that all this year.

The new location is really convenient, one set of lights off the eastern distributor. Plenty of parking and no fun police. The real Police did a few drive pasts, […]

Auto Brunch St Ives June 2022

Due to COVID, bad weather and other commitments, it had been a while since I attend the Auto Brunch event at St. Ives showground. March 2021 to be exact. I finally made it back today and as usual it was a great event. Of all the cars and coffee events in Sydney, I think this is by far the best. There is always incredible variety at this show and today was no different.

In addition to the show, The Mercedes Club planned an event to watch the sunset and Balmoral beach and then drive over to the event. I didn’t […]

Eastern Suburbs cars and coffee May 2022

I attended the Eastern Suburbs cars and coffee event for the 2nd time today. The event has moved to a new location since my last visit. Instead of being located inside Centennial Park, they now meet near the Sydney Cricket Ground – on Driver avenue near the Horden Pavilion. While its less picturesque than Centennial Park, it’s probably a better location as there is plenty of room to park cars, and no anti-car rangers trying to put an end to the whole thing.

It wasn’t quite as big as the last one, which isn’t that surprising since that was the […]

Jensen Club National Rally Display 2022

Today was the public display for the Jensen Club National Rally. Not being a Jensen owner, I’m obviously not a member of the club, so I attended as a spectator. The Jensen club is a national club, with sub groups in each state, so the annual national rally is also their opportunity to get together as a club. This year it was held in the Blue Mountains, just west of Sydney. The Blue Mountains is a great place to hold an event like this. Being out of the congestion of the capital cities, there are much better opportunities for car […]
