Jensen Club National Rally Display 2022

Today was the public display for the Jensen Club National Rally. Not being a Jensen owner, I’m obviously not a member of the club, so I attended as a spectator. The Jensen club is a national club, with sub groups in each state, so the annual national rally is also their opportunity to get together as a club. This year it was held in the Blue Mountains, just west of Sydney. The Blue Mountains is a great place to hold an event like this. Being out of the congestion of the capital cities, there are much better opportunities for car […]

Mercedes Clubs National Rally 2022 – Show and Shine

The National Rally included a Show and Shine in the morning to display the participating cars. The show and shine was held at Wigley park, a very nice spot near the Marina in Glenelg. The cars all had to be in place for 10AM as the show was open to the public from 10-12PM.

After a wash first thing in the morning, we assembled the cars in the park and it ended up being an impressive line up of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, old and new. I would expect around 80 cars were on display. My two favourites were the 220SE Cabriolets, […]

Rolls Royce Club Federal Rally 2022 display

Yesterday I was in Canberra to attend Wheels 2022 with the Mercedes Club ACT. I found out that this weekend was also the Rolls Royce Club Federal Rally. Not sure if it was a coincidence, but the public display was about a 10 minute walk from Queanbeyan showground. Based on that proximity, it would have been almost criminal not to go along and see the display.

Given the wild weather of the past few weeks, I was impressed with the number of cars sporting interstate plates. There were plenty of cars on Victorian, Queensland and South Australian registration. This is […]

Wheels 2022 Queanbeyan

Today I attended the Wheels 2022 event in Queanbeyan. This is a large car show open to car clubs affiliated with the ACT Council of Motor Clubs. In some ways it is quite similar in concept to the Eastern Creek event I attend in Sydney. The Mercedes-Benz club ACT planned to put on a special display – and invited members of the NSW club and other to participate. The goal of the display was to have a Mercedes-Benz to represent each year from 1951 to 2001.

Not only was it fun to go down and be part of the […]

Machines and Macchiatos December 2021

Machines and Macchiatos is another local cars and coffee event I’ve been meaning to check out. I finally made it today, at their new location in Belrose. This location is very convenient to for me. Its on the second sunday of the month from 7am to 9am. Between the St Ives event, Eastern Suburbs and this event I could be going to an event almost every Sunday. Turnout was quite good, although a lot smaller than the St Ives event. I’m not sure if this is normal, as the weather had been wet all week and looked quite iffy in […]

Centennial Park cars and coffee – October 2021

There is another informal cars and coffee event in Sydney that I have been meaning to go to for the last 18 months. Its the one held on the last Sunday of the month at Centennial Park. I finally managed to attend today and I am glad I did. The event is held in the middle of the park near the statue of Charles Dickens. It gets a different mix of cars than the one at St Ives I normally go to.

Today was supposed to be the day of the annual Sydney German Car show. I’m not sure if […]

National Motoring Heritage Day 2021

Today was National Motoring Heritage Day. National Motoring Heritage Day is celebrated on the 3rd Sunday of each May, with 2021 being the 15th year of this event. The basic premise is multiple car related events all around the country to showcase our rich motoring heritage. The Mercedes-Benz club combined this with a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the 107 chassis.

The 107 was released in 1971, first as the R107 SL, and then quickly followed my the C107 SLC. The SLC carried on until 1981 when it was replaced by the W126 based SEC models. The R107 continued […]

Auto Brunch St Ives March 2021

I visited the St Ives Auto Brunch event again this month.   Like last time, the event was huge – probably slightly bigger this time.   Due to other commitments i didn’t even get to see all the cars yet I was there for over two hours.

I got there about 7;30AM and there were already queues to get in.    While there is a bit of chaos, I like they have not brought in over zealous security guards that would just spoil this event.   One thing that would be good would have been if they were to open a few more […]

Auto Brunch St Ives February 2021

I attended the St Ives Auto Brunch February 2021 event today. This was the first one I have been to since the start of the Coronavirus outbreak. It was also the biggest one by far. There were literally hundreds of cars, even overflowing into other parking areas of St Ives showground.

This was also the first time I got there at the starting time – 7:30AM and it was already quite busy. This event is great as there is always so much variety there. And while there are a few cars I see ever time, there are also a lot […]

Flashback: 2012 Sydney German Auto-Fest

They Sydney German Auto-Fest is now a major event in the Sydney car show calendar. There are hundreds of cars to choose from including Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Porsche, Audi and some of the smaller brands. It has even replaced the separate Mercedes-Benz concours event. However, this show had quite humble beginnings. I attended the 2012 Sydney German Auto-Fest, back when it was a couple of dozen cars in a parking lot. I recall that this was the inaugural event, but I could be off a year.

I went there in the 250SE, but I wasn’t sure if you had to […]
