MBCNSW Chrome Bumper day at Linnwood House

Like all car clubs, MBCNSW has a lot of interesting cars that rarely get out to club events. The goal of the Chrome Bumper day was to try and entice a few of them out. The thinking was that an informal event that was fairly centrally located may be attractive for somebody who rarely takes out their older car.

The event was held at Linnwood House, a historic house not far from Parramatta. Linnwood house has four days per year where their open days have cars on display. I’ve attended a few times as a spectator, mostly for British car […]

Centennial Park cars and coffee May 2024

This morning I woke up early and so decided to head to a cars and coffee event. I hadn’t been to one in a while, and it looked like a lovely Autumn day in Sydney. The event on this weekend was the one in Centennial Park. Last time I attended this one was back in mid 2022. This event has moved around a bit as the eastern suburbs are not friendly to car events.

When I got there, I found the location had moved again. It was still in the park, but it is now near the Spruce Goose Diner, […]

Enthusiast Insurance Cars and Coffee March 2024

Today I went to a cars and coffee event at Gough Whitlam Park. It was organized by Enthusiast Insurance. I had been invited by a friend, and assumed it was a regular cars and coffee event that they were sponsoring. I think it was more an event for their customers. I’m not an Enthusiast customer, but it didn’t seem to matter a great deal.

Gough Whitlam Park is the same location that is used for the annual German car show. It is a bit small for that event, but probably better suited to a simple cars and coffee. I would […]

Wheels 2024 Queanbeyan

Today was the annual Wheels car show in Queanbeyan. This is one of the biggest multiple marque car show in the Canberra area and is akin to the Eastern Creek show in Sydney. I joined the Mercedes-Benz Club of the ACT as part of their display.

MBCACT always puts on a special display for this show and Wheels 2024 was no different. The goal was to show the different generations of the S class (and predecessors) and the E class (and predecessors). I wasn’t able to go last year, but the theme was AMG cars. In 2022, I took my […]

The Concours Run 2023 – Day 4: MBCV Concours

Today was the MBCV Concours event. This was the show that we built this whole trip around. I had wanted to attend this event for years, as I had always heard the standard of the cars was high. It always looked like a big event and with more rare older cars than we get in NSW.

The event was held at Wandin East Reserve. Wandin East is a semi-rural area on Melbourne’s eastern outskirts. The reserve is a good place to have the event as there is plenty of room to park all the cars, and set up the various […]

2023 German Car Show Sydney

Today was the annual Sydney German car show. Due to work travel and the pandemic, the last one of these I attended was back in 2018. It seems quite a while ago now. This is always a really good event and as usual it was very well organized. The show is held in Gough Whitlam park in Earlwood, which is good central location. It is probably pretty much at capacity though, so I assume the event will move at some point.

I took my 250SE to put on display this year. It’s the car I normally take for shows like […]

2023 ACT German car show

Today was the annual ACT German Car show. I always enjoy this show and this year was no different. The show is held at Queanbeyan Park, which is a great spot with plenty of shade. As with the last couple of years, I went down to Canberra for the weekend. Its a much better way to enjoy the show than getting up early and doing a day trip.

The night before the ACT club normally organize a dinner. This year was a fun informal event, where we all had to guess some rare Mercedes parts, including a C107 glove box […]

2023 British Car Show, Sydney

The 2023 British car show was finally on in Sydney, the first since 2019. The 2020 and 2021 shows were lost to Covid and the 2022 show to wet fields. The 2023 show was still at the Kings School in Parramatta, but not on the same day as the school fete like normal.

It felt like a summer day today, with temperatures of around 33C. Probably quite hot for many of the old British cars, and a few of the spectators as well. It was a lovely day though, without a cloud in the sky.

I decided to display […]

Auto Brunch St Ives September 2023

Today was the Monthly St Ives Auto Brunch cars and coffee event. The event is held in St Ives showground. Since I last attended, they have moved from being spread over some of the side roads and fields to the main showground. This is a huge improvement.

The main showground is plenty big enough for all the cars that want to attend, without the parking chaos of previous events. Of course, the organizers can improve the event, but they can’t think for the attendees. Despite having an entire oval to park on, it was hilarious to see people trying to […]

Guest Post: Victorian German Auto Show 2023

The German Auto Show has grown into one of the larger Victorian car shows, showcasing the main German marques, but also some of the lesser-known brands that have ceased manufacturing, such as NSU and Borgward. The first show was held in 2016 at the Royal Institute for the Blind and continued at the same venue up to 2019. Initially the event was limited to pre 1990 vehicles, but this changed with a venue change in 2022 at Sandown Racecourse, where close to 500 vehicles attended and $10,500 was raised and donated to Beyond Blue.

Last weekend the 2023 event was […]
