2022 Shannons Eastern Creek Car Show

Today was the 2022 Shannons Eastern Creek Car Show. This is the biggest car show that I know of in Sydney, and is held at Eastern Creek Raceway. I’ve been going for years, but have never entered a car. All those previous times I have been a spectator, most recently in 2018. The 2021 and 2020 events were cancelled due to coronavirus and I was away for the 2019 event.

One of the advantages of entering a car is you get to take it on a parade lap around the race track. Each club gets a specific slot to do […]

2021 Shannons Summer Auction Preview

Today I went to the new Shannons Auction rooms to see some of the upcoming auction lots for the 2021 Shannons Summer Auction. There have been a number of changes to how Shannons run their auctions since the COVID19 outbreak, and I think they are for the better.

Instead of separate Sydney and Melbourne auctions, they now run a combined online auction. The cars are still available for viewing in both their Sydney and Melbourne auction rooms. The Sydney location is much better than before – bigger, brighter and easier to see the cars. I’m told this location will also […]

2020 Shannons Sydney Summer auction

I went to preview the 2020 Shannons Sydney Summer Auction today. If you had a budget of about $20-$35,000 AUD, there are a lot of interesting cars to choose from. Shannons do a pretty good job of finding a good variety of cars for each of their auctions – both in price range and types of car. They are a bit more picky than other firms such as Lloyds or Grays Online.

This auction also had a large number of the numeric numbers plates at massive prices. I’ve never seen the appeal of these.

Any fans of big German coupes, […]

Shannons Sydney Autumn 2019 Auction preview

The second Shannons auction of 2019 for Sydney is just around the corner. As usual, I stopped by on my lunch break to view the lots.

There were a few cars that caught my eye:

Gold Medal: Lot 59: 1953 Jaguar XK120 Drophead

This was the standout for me at the Auction. The XK120 was one of Sir William Lyons best creations and the combination of black paint and red interior really shows it off. The Drophead is the most desirable model and this car looked in excellent condition. Guiding range is $120-$150k and I expect the car to […]

Shannons Sydney Autumn Classic 2019 Preview

The Shannons Sydney Autumn Classic Auction for 2019 happens Monday next week. I work close to the display centre, so I went down to check out the collection during my lunch break. As usual, they had a nice range of interesting cars on offer. Also as usual, there were offerings to suit most budgets.

The lots that I will be keeping an eye on during the auction are:

Lot 34: Jaguar S-Type 3.8

The S-Type is the somewhat overlooked compact jaguar. In 3.8 spec, in some ways it is the ideal compact Jaguar for touring, rather than the MK2 which […]

2018 Shannons Eastern Creek Car Show

The Shannons Eastern Creek car show is probably the largest show in NSW each year. It is notable for its variety. Generally the cars on display are great examples of everyday models that are now rarely seen on the roads. When was the last time you saw a Morris Minor, Ford Model A or Leyland P76?

It is also a family oriented event with double decker bus rides around the track, face painting, clowns etc. Those who enter a car in the event get to do a parade lap around the track. These events are also probably going to […]

Frontal Damage to the DS

Today I went to the Citroen Car Club meeting to get the historic rego signed for my Traction Avant. I am not often able to attend these meetings so it was good to catch up with the members. The club had a raffle at the meeting and I even won a prize!

I took the DS and it was running really nicely on the way home. It is such a relaxing car to drive.

Unfortunately, disaster struck during parking when I knocked it into gear and sent it flying into a post. After at least 10 years insured with Shannons […]

2016 Shannons Eastern Creek Car Show

Late August means its time again for the 2016 Shannons Eastern Creek car show, which is organized by the CMC and sponsored by Shannons. It’s probably the biggest car show in Australia and has a small selection of cars from each club affiliated with the CMC. Normally the selection is more everyday enthusiast cars rather than high end, but it is nice to see all the niche models that are rarely seen on the road. They also have vintage fire trucks, police pursuit vehicles and so on.

What was interesting to see was how popular the new classic rego […]

2016 Shannons Sydney Late Autumn Classic Auction

The 2016 Shannons Sydney Late Autumn auction is to be held on Monday so I went to the viewing day to see the cars offered for sale.

Even though nothing really grabbed my at this auction it is always well worth going and taking a look around. Much of the stock were muscle cars, some Aussie some American.

The cars that did interest me the most were:

1934 Hudson Straight 8

I know little about these cars but it has loads of character and looks like it is in nice condition. They expect $40-$50,000.

1950 Armstrong Siddeley Whitley Sports […]

2015 Shannons Sydney Spring Classic Auction Preview

The regular Shannons auctions are always a great way to see an interesting collection of classic cars and know what they actually sell for. Many classics languish for months (and sometimes years!) on carsales.com.au with ridiculous asking prices, whereas with Shannons you know the actual sale price, not the inflated asking price.

There were two cars in particular I was interested in seeing – the Jaguar XK140 FHC and the Mercedes 280SE 3.5 Coupe. Both of these cars are on my ‘car bucket list’ and I wanted to see what they were like to understand the final price. The XK140 […]
