Bathurst to Goulburn scenic drive

One of my favourite day trip drive near Sydney is the Oberon to Goulburn Drive. I’ve done this drive in both directions and its a great mix of different roads, plus limited traffic. I even incorporated this road in my recent trip to Melborne.

I had also seen that the parallel road that goes south out of Bathurst was also paved in the last 10 years. This road head south until it hits Crookwell, where you can either keep going south to Gunning, or veer off to Goulburn.

I wanted to try this as another full day trip from […]

Sydney scenic drives

Most of the articles on Sydney Scenic drives list the same old drives everyone knows. I’ve had a free day once a week for the last couple of months. Its given me the opportunity to explore different roads a day trip away from Sydney. I don’t normally get the chance to go long drives, to it was also a good opportunity to give all the cars a good run. The idea was to leave about 7:30AM, and return by 6PM, leaving time for a few breaks.

The idea was to find some good roads for the classic car driver who […]

560SEC lap of Mount Panorama

I recently purchased a Mercedes-Benz 560SEC at auction. The auction was in Queensland, so the cheapest way to get the car was to have it shipped to a depot in Bathurst. My brother and I went up to Bathurst to pick up the car in his E63 BMW 650i. The trip presented a great opportunity to drive two v8’s around the Mount Panorama racetrack.

This is now the 3rd 560SEC I have owned. The first two (1989 & 1988) were both owned in the USA when I lived in Michigan from 2007-2011. This car is a 1987 UK market […]

Old performance cars to Oberon

Old performance cars are not particularly fast by modern standards. They are surpassed by a garden variety hatchback in performance. But while they might not be particularly fast, they are a lot of fun to drive on a winding country road. Today I met up with some of the members of the Topklasse forum for a drive to Oberon. I had never been there before – but I will be back. The road between Mt Victoria to Oberon has minimal traffic, is not clogged up with hoons on motorbikes and has wide sweeping corners and 100km/h speed limits.

On the […]

E-Type to Mt. Victoria

It had been a while since the E-Type had been on a good long drive, so a friend of mine came over to the warehouse and we took the E-Type out for the drive below.

I’ve done most of this route before – Galston Rd is always a good one, as is Bells Line of Road. I was also impressed withe the Commenara parkway – will take that again instead of Pacific Highway.

The pie shop on Bells Line of Road is also a good stop off point.

The E-Type performed well, and was […]
