A couple of days ago I went on the April 2021 night drive with the MBCNSW. This month was a drive from Luna Park to Coogee via Vaucluse. We had run a similar drive in December 2020, but the weather was a bit iffy on the day and quite a few people decided not to chance it. This time there was no such issue with the weather. These were […] Today was the monthly MBCNSW night drive. Over the last week, Sydney has experienced the worst storms in sixty years. The original route that we picked for the drive was not going to be possible. It went down into the national park and close to flooded areas. There was also the risk of unknown potholes in the road that we wouldn’t see at night. Therefore, we decided to postpone the original route to June and do a much simpler drive this evening. We met at McDonalds Thornleigh. From there, we drove up Pennant Hills road and then down Pacific Highway […] Last night was the February 2021 MBCNSW Night Drive. This month’s route was Waterfall to Bulli. The rain all through the week in Sydney had been raining, but it finished just before the start of the drive and the weather was actually good the whole time. It probably kept a few people away though. As usual there was a good mix of cars – the expected bad weather did skew it more towards moderns than normal. I took my 300SE along for this drive. It was the first lone drive in the car since the new oil pump was fitted. […] The December night drive was the last official night drive of the year took us through the eastern suburbs. Yet again, the late night drive proved popular, as we had 25 registrations and a lot of cars show up on the day. The meeting point, at Bradfield Park (near Luna Park), under the Sydney Harbour bridge probably helped. There was a good range of cars from […] The monthly late night drives are really starting to gain momentum. This month was a bit different. It started out as a Night drive to Bilpin. As well as a drive, we had late night dessert and coffee. Summer in Sydney is a great time for night drives. The weather is pleasant and its a great time for convertibles or sunroofs to be open. The drive started from the McDonalds car park in Windsor. From there, the drive took us up Bells Line of Road to the Apple Pie Cottage in Bilpin. This month was the first time it was an official event. When they were unofficial we did drives such as the Old Pacific Highway, the Old Northern Road and down to Bulli. This time we did a night drive to Palm Beach. Turn out was pretty good given it had been pouring with rain for the last week. We had 9 cars show up to the drive. I took my 560SEC this time. As well as my […] A few friends in the Mercedes Club and I have been trying to get a monthly night drive going. Last night was the third one and yet again we had a great drive. This time we met up in Kirrawee and the drive was through the national park to Bulli. We started out with 5 cars and based on the cars that participated, it was a celebration of the Mercedes M116 and M117 V8. There was at least one of every generation represented. We had a 280SE 3.5 with the original iteration of the M116 – in 3.5 liter form […] I’m a member of a few different car clubs (Mercedes, Jaguar, Citroen), but am rarely able to make events. With a young family the times rarely work for me. A lot of the time I spend either working on or driving my cars is late at night. I figured I am not the only one in this situation, so after a poll of a few friends from the Mercedes club, we have started up a monthly night drive.
