Flashback: 2012 Sydney German Auto-Fest

They Sydney German Auto-Fest is now a major event in the Sydney car show calendar. There are hundreds of cars to choose from including Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Porsche, Audi and some of the smaller brands. It has even replaced the separate Mercedes-Benz concours event. However, this show had quite humble beginnings. I attended the 2012 Sydney German Auto-Fest, back when it was a couple of dozen cars in a parking lot. I recall that this was the inaugural event, but I could be off a year.

I went there in the 250SE, but I wasn’t sure if you had to […]

Shannons Sydney Autumn Classic 2019 Preview

The Shannons Sydney Autumn Classic Auction for 2019 happens Monday next week. I work close to the display centre, so I went down to check out the collection during my lunch break. As usual, they had a nice range of interesting cars on offer. Also as usual, there were offerings to suit most budgets.

The lots that I will be keeping an eye on during the auction are:

Lot 34: Jaguar S-Type 3.8

The S-Type is the somewhat overlooked compact jaguar. In 3.8 spec, in some ways it is the ideal compact Jaguar for touring, rather than the MK2 which […]

2016 Shannons Sydney Late Autumn Classic Auction

The 2016 Shannons Sydney Late Autumn auction is to be held on Monday so I went to the viewing day to see the cars offered for sale.

Even though nothing really grabbed my at this auction it is always well worth going and taking a look around. Much of the stock were muscle cars, some Aussie some American.

The cars that did interest me the most were:

1934 Hudson Straight 8

I know little about these cars but it has loads of character and looks like it is in nice condition. They expect $40-$50,000.

1950 Armstrong Siddeley Whitley Sports […]

2015 Mercedes Club NSW Concours

Today was the annual Mercedes Club concours and while it threatened to rain all day, the weather held off and a nice variety of cars showed up, including a gaggle of 190SLs, four 600s including a 4 door pullman and a decent number of cars from the ACT. With all those 600s, I expected to see a dictator with a chest full of self-awarded medals and his secret police rounding up dissidents, but he must have kept it low key.

Highlights for me were seeing the 600 pullman and the 190SL display. Interestingly, 3/4 600s were USA models in […]
