Chrysler Museum, Grenfell

This Chrysler Museum is a small car museum in the centre of the town of Grenfell.  It is run by the owner, and most of the cars on display are cars he has bought over the years.   I attended as a stop on my big road trip to Adelaide for the Bay to Birdwood Event.

One of our group called ahead to make sure it was going to be open.   We were a group of 8 people and the owner of the museum gave us a complete tour.   There are just under 20 cars on display.   They range from the 30s to modern.    Most of them are from the golden age of Chrysler in Australia, the 60s and 70s.

The owner is quite knowledgeable about the cars, and also many firsts for Australian Manufacturing.   He points out the difference between specifications of the Holden and Ford product of the time.

There is actually one Holden in the museum, the 1933 Chrysler Royal Eight Coupe was bodied by Holden when they were still an independent coachbuilder.   While most people probably before the Charger, I thought it was the pick of the museum with lovely art deco touches.

The orange Charger is the most iconic though, and this car is fully original with 28,000km including still on original tyres.  You certainly wouldn’t want to drive too far.   The museum only costs $10 and there is a lot of period memorabilia there.   It is well worth a visit if you are ever in Grenfell.
