2018 British Car Show, Sydney

The 2018 British Car show was held on Sunday at the Kings School. This is probably the best car show of the year in Sydney. As usual all the British marques were there. Also as usual was the lovely display of cars. Overall it was a great day with excellent weather and interesting cars to see. Having said that, the Kings School made some changes this year that were not for the better.

This year the Jaguars were moved from the top paddock to the middle one. This pushed clubs like Rolls Royce and Daimler down to the bottom paddock. […]

Ken the Rover P5B

While I was at the Flynn auction, I had heard that there were a few people who were interested in buying back cars they had sold to Dr Flynn some years earlier. This week I found a website that tells the story of a particular P5B Saloon (nicknamed Ken) that was bought back by its previous owner and how the car had been such an important part of their family. I think anyone who is into cars will really get a kick out of reading this story. I know I enjoyed it. I don’t remember the car but it looks […]

The Flynn Collection Auction

Friday and Saturday the Flynn collection was Auctioned off. There were over 130 running cars for sale on the friday night and then the Saturday morning consisted of the parts and some non-runners. Nearly all of them were Rovers.

There was a fair amount of interest right around Australia and the Auctioneers did a good job of generating excitement. Therefore the earlier and better lots sold for good prices and in my view probably above market. The later lots that were in poor condition or basically parts cars sold for next to nothing. Most of the cars were registered previously […]

The Flynn Collection

On the 18th and 19th of November the entire collection of the late Dr Flynn will be auctioned in Canberra. There are around 160 cars for sale, most of them rover P4, P5 or P6 models. These cars represent the Rover marque at its very best and provide examples of most of the models offered during that period. Sadly, it would appear that the cars were not well kept and even the best of them is only in fair condition and many of them are basically parts cars. As well as the Rovers, the auction catalogue also includes a couple […]

Favorites of the 2016 British Car Show

The British car show has such a selection of cars that its hard to pick favorites, but these represent the standout cars for me on the day.

Healey Elliott

I found this to be a really striking car and not one I had seen before. Apparently it has the 2.5 liter Riley engine and was capable of 100mph, quite a feat at the time for a four seat car.

Bentley S2 Continental

These cars are incredibly rare and valuable, so not a car I aspire to own due to the cost, but I think the pick of the post […]

Book Review: Rover P5 & P5B: The Complete Story

I am a fan of the Rover P5, but I don’t have the time, room or funds to purchase one. So the solution is to buy a book!

I purchased this book: Rover P5 & P5B: The Complete Story by James Taylor and overall I am happy with the purchase.

The book does a good job of covering the events that led up to the launch of the car and then the major changes that took place during its life cycle. It covers all the different series of car, as well as the Coupe and Saloon. It also features […]

The Rover P5

I was recently introduced to the Rover P5 at a car event, and while it was always a car I was aware of, I had never really examined it in any great detail.

The Rover P5 was the higher end car offered by Rover at the time, competing with the likes of the larger Jaguars. As far as I know, it was the P5 that first had the moniker ‘Gentlemans Club on wheels’ and came at a time when Rover was at its very best – the era of the P5, P6 and Range Rover. Sadly, Rover is no […]
