Product Review: SCA Hydraulic Vehicle Positioning Jack

Supercheap Auto had their hydraulic positioning Jack on sale ($162 e.a.) last week so I picked up a set for the garage. There are some parts of the Garage that are not easy to get cars in/out of, and I’ve also had situations such as with the 280CE where there are cars that are not running for extended periods of time as I work on them. I also had a $100 gift voucher to use, and about $25 of credit on their loyalty card that was going to expire.

If you’re not familiar with how this tool works, basically it […]

Site update – outage

This site went down on Monday of this week without warning. Apparently a provider of the hosting provider discontinued a server without giving them notice and they didn’t have adequate backups. The site is now up and running, but unfortunately my last database backup was corrupt, so I am having to manually upload a few months worth of posts. This is rather unfortunate, but ultimately, there are only 2-3 posts that will be lost.

This site started out as a way of keeping a diary of the things I do to my cars. Ultimately I started making the site for […]

Scrapping an E39 BMW

My brother has been removing items from the interior of the E39 BMW before it goes off to become beer cans. Scrap dealers only offer a few hundred dollars, so this can be a good way of making a bit more from the wreck.

The black leather front seats will make great chairs in the house too!

Rigid passenger safety cell at work

These photos are a good example of how the Rigid passenger safety cell works. You can see how the front of the car has crumpled, the bonnet is crumpled, both front wings are crumpled – as they are all designed to. However, the passenger cabin is still intact, all four doors open and close properly and there are no intrusions into the passenger space.

A good example of the reason you would buy a well engineered car. This was the BMW 523i I reviewed about 9 months ago, and it hit another car on the freeway yesterday. It is […]

Car manufacturers influence proposed NSW car registration changes?

NSW already has the most expensive car registration in the country, with no change from $1,000 to register the typical car – and that is just the Greenslip, Registration fees and other Government taxes.

NSW also has a particularly useless conditional registration scheme, whereby collector cars can go on ‘club’ plates and be used only for club events. Great if you are able to make a lot of club events, but not so great if you have to work a lot, or have a young family and want to drive your car when you can.

Now they are at it […]

Update – Aldi compressor

Unfortunately this post was lost during the website crash of January 2015.

However, the post was basically about the Aldi compressor failing fairly soon after purchase, but Aldi replacing it no questions asked.

D Day, 2014

Unfortunately this post was lost during the website crash of January 2015. The post detailed the yearly D run – ‘D Day’.

Aldi compressor

Aldi were doing a special on a 50l compressor for $129, including basic accessories. Even if the unit is poor quality, at that price I couldn’t pass it up. So far all I have done with it is inflate tyres, but as I use it more, I will post a proper review.

French vs German

The E-Type is the most reliable of them all?

I am currently waiting at the bus stop, which is one of the occasional joys of classic car ownership.

The E-Type is working fine, but I needed to go to the hardware store and it is not the most practical car for that.

The 450SLC currently has a window stuck down and it’s raining so I can’t leave it parked on the street all afternoon.

The 250SE has its transmission linkage held together with a bulldog clip while I wait for parts.

The DS is not cured of its overheating and is stuck behind the 250SE.

The 280CE is not […]
